Climate change will occur gradually, as a series of small changes over time. Therefore, assessments of vulnerability to the present climate is a good starting point for analyzing vulnerability to future climate. A set of indicators for various socioeconomic and ecological dimensions of vulnerability can be projected along with future scenarios of climate change to see how present vulnerabilities may be lessened, exacerbated, or changed very little over the course of the next century.
