JGCRI researchers along with colleagues in Canada have spent the last several years undertaking a comprehensive review of candidate geologic formations that might be suitable for geologic storage of CO2. So far we have identified more than 300 potential geologic CO2 storage reservoirs in North America that have the theoretical potential to store more 3000 gigatons of CO2, far more than the US and Canada could conceivably use for many centuries to come.
