Climate change will have a variety of effects on natural ecosystems. In this seminar I will discuss how climate change might affect biodiversity. This issue has received surprisingly little attention, in part because it is so difficult to evaluate effects in a comprehensive way. I will review the specific types of threats to biodiversity that are associated with climate change and will describe some of the approaches that have been taken in efforts to evaluate effects on biodiversity. I will then turn to the one of the key challenges in projecting effects on biodiversity – the problem of migration. I will conclude with an example of a group of species that may be particularly threatened by climate change.
