International Trends in Energy Research and Development (R&D)

JGCRI researchers have observed and analyzed energy R&D for more than a decade, tracking patterns in investment, technology choice, and energy policy in industrialized countries. Some of the results of this research are presented here as case studies of individual countries, cross-cutting or multi-country analyses, and in-depth analyses of investment in specific technology areas in key countries. The figure above, from the recent JGCRI working paper “Energy R&D Investment Patterns in IEA Countries: An Update” illustrates long-term (1974-2002) aggregate energy R&D investment in selected industrialized countries.
